Kindergarten and First Grade Tee Ball
Kindergarten and First Grade T-ball is a co-educational activity designed to introduce and reinforce fundamental ballplaying skills, and, more importantly, focused on the importance of doing one’s best, being a good teammate and having fun. It is not competitive. All players receive a uniform consisting of a hat and jersey. Teams are formed randomly. Each 90 minute session is divided into two parts, with players practicing essential skills such as throwing, catching and hitting for the first 45 minutes, and then playing a “game” (which somehow always ends in a tie) for the second 45 minute period. Kindergarten players hit exclusively from a tee, while First Graders begin hitting from a tee and gradually move to hitting pitches thrown by coaches as their skill level rises. A reduced-impact baseball is used for safety.
The activity is held each Saturday at the Ho Ho Kus School fields beginning in early April and continuing through mid-June. The sessions for 1st Graders run from 9:30 am to 11 am, while the Kindergarteners meet from 11 am to 12:30 pm. No sessions are scheduled for the Spring School Vacation week, and an optional session is held on Memorial Day weekend.
